Week 4 and 5 Term 4

Welcome to a bumper blog post sharing our learning from Week 4 and 5.
Over the last 2 weeks we have continued to learn how 'magic e' can change a vowel from saying its sounds to saying its name.
We were very lucky to have Brain Gym resources donated to school by Kerri Bainbridge to help us develop our Bran Gym skills. You can find out more about Brain Gym in Nelson at:
http://braingymnelson.co.nz/

In No Child Left Inside we have been learning the skills necessary to throw a discus.....

...we particularly liked the healthy apple treat afterwards, thank you!

In maths we worked with our maths buddies to revisit the concept of skip counting in 2's, 5's and 10's.

We all achieved some new learning around the correct way to write upper case and lower case Jj..a bit tricky to begin with  but we kept on trying.
A key focus over the last 2 weeks has been around the celebrations of Diwali, a festival of light that marks the start of the  Hindu  New.
As part of this topic we made firework pictures......
..... and worked collaboratively to make a rangoli pattern to welcome others into our Junior Playground.

A big thank you to Isha's mum for helping Tracy to put on her sari, a dress traditionally worn by women and girls at Diwali time.....

.... and for bringing in a wonderful collection of dolls to retell a Diwali story.

We also made Diwali divas from salt dough and decorated them with metallic paints.

It is great to see Room 10 friends being active around our school helping keeping it litter free and working hard to help us be an Enviro School.

We also celebrated another birthday in Room 10, there are quite a few more coming up before the end of term so watch out for those tell tale birthday balloons on our class door.

Finally take a look at some of the Discovery Time we have shared over the last 2 weeks. You might even spot some Renwick 2 friends who joined us for a morning session.
