Week 7 Term 2

This week we have been busy learning about Keeping Ourselves Safe. Constable Susan came to class to help us think about types of touch that we liked, did not like, or that could be confusing. We know that " Our Bodies Belong to Us!"
We also learnt about good and bad secrets......
..and practiced saying "NO" to someone who asked us to do something we were not happy about. Well done Room 10, you all did a great job.
Take a look at some of the things we chose to photograph ourselves for this week's blog.

In maths with Sam, we revisited some statistics work by making a pictogram of different insects with our maths buddies.

One of our tricky words was 'away'. I am so impressed with how you all understand and use correct letter size and position in these lessons.
In Discovery we continued the very popular exploration of solid, liquid and gases...a whole new generation of scientists are being created!

Finally we would like to share with you our slide show of photos that we took of groups of objects from 1-20. Look out for a book of numbers using these photos appearing in our classroom soon.

In class we continued the myths and legends focus by acting out and writing our own versions of the Matariki 7 Star Fish legend. We then illustrated them using Tuxpaint on the computer. Check them out on our Kidzstuff blog.

One day mum told the little fish to not go out into the open seas. The giant is angry and you will get caught.Ryan 11.6.16

The Matariki celebrations continued on Friday when we shared Matariki activities with a whole Kowhai syndicate rotation including rakau sticks..........

......Maori string games.............

....and printing to make our own 7 Stars pictures.

Now that we have been learning to use the camera it is lovely to see the children taking their own  pictures of their achievements.
Finally if you pop into class this week please take a look at our new display celebrating our learning about primary and secondary colours which we combined with adding numbers to 10.

Week 5 Term 2

If you spotted some giants around  the playground last week don't panic it was just Room 10 learning to use the 'Giant's View' camera angle for taking photos.

When we were learning the sound 'z' we made a zoo, that grew....

...and grew

and grew!!!!!

On Monday Mel came to talk to us about how we can look after the stream next to the school by keeping it clear, cold and flowing. She also showed us how plants along the side of the stream could stop pollution entering the stream and  keep it healthy for all the animals that live in it.

In No Child Left Outside as well as getting rather muddy we practiced our dribbling and passing skills with a football.

In maths we have been looking at ordering numbers up to 10.

We took it in turns to sit in the Author's chair to share our great descriptions about taniwha's.

We did some exciting experiments in Discovery Time continuing our investigations into the water Cycle.........

...and learning which objects would sink and which would float.
In music we worked on keeping the beat and loud and soft using the percussion instruments.

The week ended with Bella's mum reading us a special story..thank you!!!!

Here is our voice recording of the very popular poem " One Day A Taniwha"
